A better Offline Mode.

By Memrise Team

** JANUARY 2020 UPDATE**

We’ve rebuilt Offline Mode! After some improvement work that was carried out last year, we received feedback of specific cases that were having issues with course downloads. It’s super important for us that everyone is able to use Offline Mode properly, so we rolled our sleeves up again to make sure this was the case.

We’re happy to announce that we’ve concluded work and now you can seamlessly download community-created courses, multiple courses at once and even courses that may have corrupted assets.

Update the app to enjoy these improvements, and if you’re missing out on the joy of learning whenever you have a moment in your free day, try out one of our Premium Learning Plans!

In an ideal world, we’d all have uninterrupted access to the internet. Oh, the endless scrolling learning!

But alas, we don’t. Wi-fi signals don’t reach to where you are sitting, your data is all gone, you’re taking a long-haul flight to your holiday or you’re just doing your daily commute underground. And stuck. With no internet.

That’s why our engineers have been working on making a series of improvements to our offline mode. We want you to be able to seamlessly learn regardless of your network connection. The work is ongoing, but here’s a peek at how we’re making it better for you:

  • Better handling of temporary network issues. So if you lose signal for just a few secs here and there, your lessons carry on smoothly.
  • We’ll automatically pause and queue your download if your signal becomes weak or lost, so it resumes as soon as you come back online.
  • A new setting to control whether to use Wi-Fi or data to download your course.
  • Offline sessions with video, so you can get the full benefit of watching and learning with real locals regardless of your connection.

These changes have been rolled out to iOS and are coming soon to Android, so keep your eyes on our latest updates!
